The mission and vision of Government of Kerala (GoK) is to transform the state into a knowledge society with sustainable economic growth, social harmony and high quality of life to its citizens. Considering the democratic culture, due participations from all sections and strata of the society has been taken into account to achieve this.
GoK has always been working towards the adoption and application of Information & Communication Technology (ICT) for services and support to its citizens and in empowering the community in its smoother functioning. Government has taken up various initiatives over the years, which helped in succeeding the implementation of ICT projects of the State and boosting their activities in e-governance.
The Government recognizes the importance of ICT as a key channel for development of the state. Based on this the state has introduced IT Policies ( IT Policy 1998, 2001, 2007, 2012, 2017 ) which helped the state in further development in IT sector and made Kerala into an investment destination and a leader in e-Governance initiatives. The IT Policy 2017 aims to establish Kerala as a leading IT destination and in building necessary technological infrastructure, a preferred IT hub, there by attracting investments from within and outside the region.
The Handbook on e-Governance provides details regarding major services provided by IT Department including state infrastructure, facilitator to departments that helps to lead the state in implementing ICT projects. It covers the State’s Critical Information Infrastructure facilities like Kerala Fibre Optic Network (K-FON), Kerala State Wide Area Network, State Data Centre, Citizen Service Centres viz. Akshaya, FRIENDS, portal based services such as e-procurement, SPARK, KSDI, and various capacity building programmes.
