Kerala Spatial Data Infrastructure (GIS to services)

Kerala Spatial Data Infrastructure (KSDI) is an Internet based Geo Spatial Data Directory for the state implemented in the year 2009 (G.O.(MS.)4-2009-ITD), that allow the users to share and explore the information related to political and administrative boundaries, state geography, demography, agro and socio economy, resources, infrastructure facilities with attributes. KSDI is a part of National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) and can together contribute to the National Geographic Information System (NGIS) initiatives of the country as well as digital Kerala and e-governance, by promoting better governance, sustainable development, citizen empowerment etc. The Kerala Geoportal was launched on 18th January 2013 with ERDAS Apollo 2011 platform. It was a milestone in the field of Spatial Data Infrastructure throughout the State. The existing upgraded Geoportal built on ERDAS Apollo 2016 platform was launched on May 17, 2017. The upgraded portal enables the user/user departments for better planning and decision making through a WebGIS platform with several advanced tools and features.

DATA SHARING BETWEEN DEPARTMENTS THROUGH KSDI

KSDI Kerala Geoportal supports Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and interoperable Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Web Services (WFS, WMS, WCS etc..) with facility for data discovery, query, spatial and nonspatial analysis etc. These services are widely accepted and interoperable in other web GIS platforms.

Apart from that KSDI is also imparting trainings, technical supports, internship programmes for PG students and helping the departments to create their own Geoportals and DSS. Based on the KSDI policies the data should be shared with KSDI.
